Thoughts on Maryland’s Football Uniforms

September 6, 2011

A lot of people have been commenting on Maryland’s uniforms from last night.

As you can see, one half was black and yellow, the other half red and white.  It was interesting in some instances to see players wearing it.  They even had custom arm socks to match whichever side the player wore it.

Sometimes it looked like the players weren’t even on the same team.

Most people say they’re gross. I liked the effort. The problem I had with them is they were inaccurate.

Under Armour claims they’re modeled after the Maryland state flag. This is the flag in question.

Look again at those pics.  Shouldn’t the black/yellow pattern be on the opposite shoulder as the black/yellow pattern on the helmet? Doesn’t that create a more accurate to the flag look?

I did some Photoshopping so we could be sure.

The way they looked...

The way they SHOULD have looked.

Poor Photoshopping aside, I think I speak for everyone (yes, even you) when I say the second looks much better.  And it’s more accurate too. If you’re going to try to incorporate something at least incorporate it correctly.

At least the Maryland hockey team knows how to replicate a flag.
